Streamflow Preservation

The Colorado Water Trust (CWT) develops projects for the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) to preserve and protect sensitive stream flow in the complex framework of prior-appropriation water rights. BBA assisted the CWT and CWCB in changing the use of senior irrigation water rights to maintain critical streamflow in Washington Gulch and the Slate River near Crested Butte, Colorado. This water rights change will leave senior water rights in the stream to benefit riparian habitat and protect that water from diversion.
